Greenville man charged with murder of mother after welfare check reveals tragedy (wcti12.com) — Greenville police have charged a local man with killing his 76-year-old mother after officers discovered her dead during a welfare check at her Moyewood neighborhood home. The suspect was arrested in Wilson on outstanding warrants, interviewed in Greenville, and is now being held at the Pitt County Detention Center as the investigation continues.
   

2. ECU police prepare for fall 2025 graduation ceremony with enhanced safety measures (wcti12.com) — ECU’s fall graduation at Minges Coliseum this Friday is expected to bring five to six thousand people and heavy traffic around campus, especially on 10th Street in Greenville. ECU and Greenville police will direct traffic, increase visible and plainclothes patrols, and urge drivers and pedestrians to stay alert, use crosswalks, and report anything suspicious to keep the ceremony safe.
   

3. ECU Health continues application process for new operating rooms (witn.com) — ECU Health Medical Center in Greenville is seeking state approval for five new operating rooms and 96 additional beds to ease chronic overcrowding and meet rising patient demand. Leaders say the expansion, targeted for completion in 2029, is crucial to serving Greenville residents and patients from across eastern North Carolina more quickly and efficiently.
   

4. MrBeast filmed most of new Beast Games in NC after state updated incentive rules (newsobserver.com) — Most of the new season of MrBeast’s “Beast Games” was filmed at sites in and around Greenville after North Carolina tweaked its film incentive rules to qualify the show. The Greenville-based YouTube star’s production is expected to employ hundreds statewide and keep his company’s major investment rooted in eastern North Carolina.
   

5. Minnesota United Signs MNUFC2 Defender Britton Fischer to MLS Contract (oursportscentral.com) — Greenville native defender Britton Fischer has earned an MLS contract with Minnesota United after impressing for their MNUFC2 squad. The 21-year-old, born and raised in Greenville, turned a strong 2025 playoff run and steady development into a First Team deal through 2026 with options beyond.
