Greenville man pleads guilty to second-degree murder in Kearney Park shooting death (wcti12.com) — A Greenville man has pleaded guilty to second-degree murder in a 2022 Kearney Park neighborhood shooting that killed a 17-year-old. Pitt County court records show his sentencing is delayed until at least May 2026, while a second man still faces a murder charge with another hearing set for March.
   

2. Pitt County sees rise in homelessness as cold weather strains local shelters (wcti12.com) — Rising homelessness in Pitt County is straining Greenville Community Shelter, which is adding a new family wing with 36 beds expected to open in February. Officials say nearly all beds are filling during recent dangerously cold nights, and they’re preparing a new 2026 homeless count to better target resources.

Dec. 17 Community News (reflector.com) — Several upcoming Greenville events are lined up, from this Saturday’s holiday market at Leroy James Farmers Market to the Festival of Trees at the Greenville Convention Center running through Dec. 26. You’ll also find details on Noon Years Eve downtown, Chamber networking events, an economic forecast luncheon, MLK celebrations, and weekly VFW bingo.
   

4. Dudley man charged in October home invasion, faces multiple felony counts (wcti12.com) — Greenville police have charged a 20-year-old Dudley man in connection with an October home invasion and attempted robbery at a residence on Fairfax Avenue. He’s accused of using a rifle during the incident and now faces multiple felony counts. The suspect is being held without bond at the Pitt County Detention Center, with a first court appearance scheduled in Pitt County Courthouse.
   

5. Congressman Murphy to undergo follow-up treatment following surgery for benign pituitary tumor (witn.com) — Greenville-based Congressman Greg Murphy says he’ll undergo follow-up treatment after earlier surgery for a benign pituitary tumor but expects to return to work after the Christmas break. He emphasizes transparency about his health, thanks constituents for their support and prayers, and confirms he has filed to run for reelection.
