Pitt County launches 'Home for the HOWLidays' foster program for shelter pets this season (wcti12.com) — Pitt County Animal Services is inviting Greenville residents to give shelter pets a holiday break by fostering dogs and cats from its Greenville location through the “Home for the HOWLidays” program. All supplies are provided, and short-term fosters can pick up pets on December 18 or 22 and return or adopt them on January 2. Interested residents can learn more or sign up through the county website or by contacting the shelter.
   

2. Greenville City Council approves larger bar spaces and mixed drinks at microbreweries (wcti12.com) — Greenville’s City Council has expanded how big local bars and microbreweries can be and now allows microbreweries to serve mixed drinks, potentially changing your nightlife options downtown. The updated “Bar 2022” rules increase maximum bar size, broaden eligible zoning districts, and add safety and nuisance standards, while still keeping bars at least 500 feet from churches and neighborhoods.
   

3. Tips for Greenville shoppers on avoiding debt this holiday season (witn.com) — Greenville shoppers are feeling the pinch of higher prices and looking for ways to avoid holiday debt. Locals and an ECU Financial Wellness Hub expert suggest setting strict per-person budgets, resisting impulse buys, and planning gift spending for the whole year. Data show online spending is up, and North Carolinians are expected to overspend, making careful planning especially important.
   

4. 'It warms my heart': Christmas donations surge in ENC despite economic challenges (witn.com) — Greenville and Pitt County organizations are seeing a big jump in Christmas donations this year, even as prices stay high. The Salvation Army in Greenville has already raised $50,000, while Pitt County DSS reports more sponsors for foster children and seniors.
