1. Greenville shelter faces high demand during cold weather (wnct.com) — With temperatures dropping, Greenville’s only homeless shelter is filling all 85 beds and tightening rules to manage demand. The Greenville Community Shelter opens daily at 6 p.m., requires a photo ID, and is a dry facility where guests must pass a breathalyzer. Leaders warn many locals are just one paycheck away from needing help.
   

2. Dec. 11 Community News (reflector.com) — Greenville residents have a full slate of upcoming community events, from Friday’s Merry Mixer at the Greenville Museum of Art to Coffee & Connections, Wildwood Park’s night hike, and the Festival of Trees at the Greenville Convention Center. You can also ring in Noon Years Eve downtown, explore Science Saturdays, and enjoy regional offerings in Ayden, Grifton, and at Leroy James Farmers Market.

ECU fraternity recalls pursuit of break-in suspect (witn.com) — An ECU student was arrested in Greenville after police say he broke into the Sigma Tau Gamma fraternity house and took items including a Jesus statue and ceremonial sword. Fraternity members briefly chased the suspect toward nearby apartments before officers recovered the items and charged him with burglary.
   

4. Teacher of the Week: Ashley Hutchinson (witn.com) — A Greenville English and journalism teacher at J.H. Rose High School is being recognized for her work guiding students who produce the Rampant Lines newspaper and lead honor society activities. She also trains AP teachers statewide and organizes educational trips abroad, bringing global experiences back to Greenville classrooms.
   

5. Gene Simmons Testifies During Senate Hearing on Music Fairness Act (newsmax.com) — A Greenville-based radio executive is warning Congress that a proposed Music Fairness Act could strain already struggling local stations. During a Senate hearing where Gene Simmons pushed for new performance royalties, Inner Banks Media CEO Henry Hinton argued added fees might cost jobs and reduce stations’ ability to serve communities like Greenville.
