1. Avon/Avon Lake Community Resource Services (CRS) will be holding its 34th Annual Charity Ball on April 22 at the Shipyards Event Center. Tickets will go on sale on March 6. The event will be a night to celebrate sponsors, donors, and volunteers who support CRS and its mission to diminish poverty in Avon and Avon Lake. 3. Expecting an influx of visitors to the area to view the April 8 full solar eclipse in town, Avon Lake schools will be closed for the day extending the April vacation one day longer. The town is reportedly directly in the path of totality for the eclipse and in the past, when these types of events have occurred in other towns, they have reported that traffic can be backed up for hours as a result. The eclipse is slated to happen around 3 p.m. which is just the time when buses would be loaded up with students. So, in an effort to prevent traffic jams and the potential for area children to be stuck on buses for extended periods of time, the schools will be closed on the day of the rare astronomical event.
