Canton appoints new city prosecutor (cantonrep.com) — Canton’s Law Department has promoted longtime staff attorney Kristina Lockwood to serve as the city’s new prosecutor starting Jan. 1, succeeding Katie Erchick Gilbert after her election as municipal judge. A Stark County native and Canton resident, Lockwood has risen through the city’s ranks since 2014 and will now lead prosecutions with a focus on fair, effective justice.
   

2. 'It's critical.' Canton mayor hopes to hire a lobbyist in Columbus (thesuburbanite.com) — Canton’s mayor wants City Council to approve hiring a Columbus-based lobbying firm in 2026, at about $60,000 a year, to chase state funding and influence legislation affecting residents. The contract, paid from the city’s general fund, could be introduced as emergency legislation in early January, with supporters arguing it would give Canton a stronger voice at the Statehouse.
   

3. Multi-agency raid in Canton seizes drugs and firearms, man arrested (cleveland19.com) — Canton police and multiple agencies executed two search warrants Friday morning after a six-month drug trafficking investigation, arresting a 46-year-old Canton man and seizing contraband at locations in the city and Plain Township. Investigators say more charges may follow and are asking residents to share tips with the Canton Police Special Investigations Unit or anonymously through Tip411 or Stark County Crime Stoppers.
   

4. UWRF's Blaha named one of five finalists for Gagliardi Trophy (hudsonstarobserver.com) — Canton will host the Division III national championship Stagg Bowl on Jan. 4, 2026, where one of the nation’s top quarterbacks may soon play. UW-River Falls star Kaleb Blaha has been named a finalist for the prestigious Gagliardi Trophy while leading his team into this weekend’s national semifinal.

    I was able to solve the Christmas riddle to guess the the title and a few words of a Christmas song. I guessed the song to be Mary Did You Know. This… (Nextdoor Onahom/Middlebranch)
