Canton man charged after threat to blow up Stark Library (beaconjournal.com) — Canton police charged a 34-year-old man after an alleged phone threat to blow up the Stark Library on Market Avenue, though library services were not interrupted and staff were unaware at the time. Officers conducted a welfare check at his apartment, noted mental health concerns, and collected his phone as evidence; he’s scheduled for arraignment in Canton Municipal Court on Dec. 18.
   

2. State historic tax credits awarded to Renkert project in downtown Canton (cantonrep.com) — A long-stalled plan to turn Canton’s historic Renkert Building into a 111-room Marriott hotel is back on track after Ohio restored $5 million in historic tax credits. Developers say they’re ready to move forward on the $53.3 million Century Plaza Hotel across from Centennial Plaza, part of a statewide preservation program expected to spur hundreds of millions in private investment.
   

3. Stark commissioners approve emergency capital funds to start the year (cantonrep.com) — Stark County commissioners in Canton have set aside $575,000 in emergency capital funds to handle urgent building needs, like boiler failures, as the new year begins. A full capital projects budget will follow in March, after departments submit requests, building on the recently approved $99.5 million 2026 operating budget that boosts pay, health care, and inmate medical costs.
   

4. Canton Boy Scout Saves Grandmother's Life (thegeorgiasun.com) — A young Canton Boy Scout is being honored after pulling his grandmother from a deep pond and performing lifesaving compressions until she could breathe again. The Canton Police Department credits his quick thinking and calm under pressure with saving her life and plans to present him with a Lifesaving Award recognizing his bravery and determination.

Ohio high school girls basketball photos, Jackson vs. Lake (cantonrep.com) — Local hoops fans can relive Wednesday night’s Jackson vs. Lake girls basketball matchup through a new Canton Repository photo gallery highlighting key drives, rebounds, and fouls. The images also capture Jackson’s Maddie Lepley being honored for reaching 1,000 career points alongside her parents.
