Award-winning editor at William Mason High heads to Ohio University

The "pipeline" of students from William Mason High School to Ohio University launches careers in journalism, public relations, and media

Ohio University has strong ties to William Mason High School, ranked among the top high schools in the state. Mason High’s award-winning newspaper editor, Camden Paeltz, is headed to Ohio University to study journalism.

“The pipeline from Mason to Ohio University — and then on to career success — is alive and well,” says Dale Conner, Mason High’s faculty member for journalism, broadcast media, digital communications, and sports media.

Paeltz is outgoing editor-in-chief of Mason High’s publication The Chronicle, which earned “All Ohio” status from the Ohio Scholastic Media Association. The Kiwanis Club of Mason named Paeltz its March Student of the Month.

The long list of Mason High media alumni who also graduated from Ohio University include:

  • Ayden Crowley (Mason High Class of 2020), a sports reporter and weekend anchor at WEHT in Evansville, Indiana.
  • Dani Dean, host of the Gridiron Glory sports show at WOUB Public Media at Ohio University (2016); she is a Strategic Services Consultant at Sprout Social Inc. (social media management and analytics).
  • Abbey Marshall, a reporter/producer at Ideastream Public Media (Cleveland); Marshall was managing editor of The Chronicle at Mason High (Class of 2016).
  • Kaitlyn Shive, a news producer at WDRB in Louisville, Kentucky. At Mason High (Class of 2014), Shive was named outstanding anchor and best on-air talent.
  • Caleigh Bourgeois is VP/Public Affairs at the Antenna Group in Washington, DC (Ohio University Class of 2014).
