Power! Pride! Pro Wrestling!: A Drag & Wrestling Extravaganza!

After a successful debut last year, Power! Pride! Pro Wrestling! returns 11/2. I interviewed promoter Heather Owens to get the scoop.

What do you get when you combine pro wrestling with a drag show? You get Power! Pride! Pro Wrestling!: A Drag & Wrestling Extravaganza!

Debuting November 4 last year, it was intended as a one-time show bringing together the world of pro wrestling and the LGTBQ+ community. Of course, most folks quietly felt this was just the start of something big.

The debut was so successful, attendees and others who later saw it on the Power Pride Pro Wrestling YouTube channel immediately started asking for more. On Thursday, November 2, they will get more Power! Pride! Pro Wrestling!

Taking place at Rhinegeist Brewery, Power! Pride! Pro Wrestling! will feature five wrestling matches and three drag performances. Wild Side Caveman Cuisine will also have a food truck there.

Wanting to get the scoop on this year's event, I went to promoter, long-time friend and (mostly) retired pro wrestler Hardcore Heather Owens. With her role as Co-Chair of Cincinnati Pride Athletics Committee and her wrestling background, Heather was the perfect person to organize the event.

Heather discussed the origins of Power! Pride! Pro Wrestling!, what it means to her, what to expect and more, including the possibility of more such events. While Heather envisions a yearly event, she did not rule out the possibility of increasing the frequency.

I did not attend the first event, but mutual friend Tommy Else and I talked to Heather about it on our podcast last year. I knew Heather's passion, commitment and knowledge would make the event special. From all reports and watching it on YouTube, it was indeed very special. This year, Power! Pride! Pro Wrestling promises to be even better.

Located in the OTR-downtown Cincy area, Rhinegeist Brewery is the perfect place for the event. Doors open at 6 pm with a 7 pm bell time. I'd suggest arriving at 6, getting food and a couple drinks and soaking in the atmosphere, before settling in for a fun night. Tickets are available now at CincinnatiPride.org.
