High-Speed Police Chase Into Cleveland Ends In Fatal Wreck

1) A reckless driver in a Kia Optima fled East Cleveland police Wednesday morning, speeding into Cleveland at over 100 miles per hour before crashing on St. Clair Avenue into a telephone pole and parking meter. The driver died. Police tried to stop the Kia because the headlights weren't on. The Kia stopped at one point and let out some passengers before the chase.

2) The woman accused of killing Cleveland police officer Shane Bartek tried to fire her lawyers Wednesday in court. Tamara McLoyd, 18, told the judge she believed her lawyers were working for the prosecution. McLoyd changed her mind, however, after the judge questioned her. McLoyd is accused of carjacking Bartek and killing him on New Year's Eve.
3) Explosives likely caused the explosion of a Garfield Heights home in June that killed three people inside. State Fire Marshal investigators found boxes of cardboard tubes, fuses and chemicals used to make bombs. The bodies of Donald Malinowski, 64, Gerald Bateman, 57, and Cassandra Bateman, 37, were found in the rubble.

4) Rod Stewart's two-hour Tuesday night gig at Blossom proves the septuagenarian can still put on a rollicking show, writes Eric Heisig in Cleveland Scene. But "he’s a ham and always has been." The critic says the legend veered into ridiculousness at times, detracting from great renditions of "Hot Legs" and "Stay With Me." He called the show "half great, half infuriating."

5) Powerful storms swept through Northeast Ohio Wednesday night, knocking out power for almost 10,000 residents across three counties. The storms felled trees and dropped nuggets of hail across the Cleveland area, too. Look on the bright side, though. Today will be sunny.
