Donuts are a classic treat, and this year, their day in the spotlight is June 3. Celebrate at these Cleveland shops, plus enjoy deals.
CLEVELAND, OH — National Donut Day. Need we say more? The sugar-filled sprinkle-crazy holiday is Friday, June 3, so we gathered up a list of the best donut places in Cleveland so you can celebrate.
- Jack Frost Donuts
- This is a cult-favorite donut shop. They operate on very old-school rules — they are open until they sell out, and that is that. The donuts are supposedly legendary if you can get your hands on them, ranging in mouth-watering flavors with specialty varieties that rotate. Don't wait until late in the day to try to grab your favorite flavor here, especially on National Donut Day. The early bird gets the donut.
- Brewnuts
- A relative newcomer, Brewnuts has become a popular favorite quickly. They embrace a Cleveland-first aesthetic, and the name pretty much sums up the experience: brews and donuts. They specialize in beer and donuts, together, but also serve coffee, cocktails and more. The business also champions other local businesses. Brewnuts has pretty interesting hours as they are open very early in the morning and late at night on some days. This is the perfect spot for a late-night National Donut Day celebration, since they are open until 11 p.m. on Fridays, or an early morning meet-up when they first open at 6:30 a.m. They also carry two vegan flavors daily, so the whole crew can participate in the celebration.
- The Vegan Doughnut Company
- These donuts are all vegan, all of the time. They are known for their interesting flavor options and special square design. Whether you are vegan or not, these donuts are sure to impress. They are not the cheapest option, but they are decadent and delicious, which is why the donuts often sell out before the end of the day. Even the attention to detail in decorating the donuts is exquisite, making them look almost too good to eat. The flavors for June have not yet been announced, so keep an eye on their Facebook for a new post about the yummy selections coming to the shop.

The Doughnut Lassies came to be in 1917 when the Salvation Army wanted to find a way to provide spiritual and emotional support to soldiers fighting in France. About 250 volunteers traveled overseas and set up small huts near the front lines where they could give soldiers clothes, supplies and baked goods.
After discovering that baked goods would be difficult to serve due to the conditions of the huts and limited resources, two volunteers began frying donuts in soldiers’ helmets.

The women who served donuts to troops are often credited with popularizing the donut in the United States when the troops returned home from war.
