5 Fatal Overdoses Over Labor Day In Cleveland

Police believe there were at least five fatal overdoses in Cleveland between Sunday and Monday.

CLEVELAND — Between Sunday and Monday, there were at least five fatal overdoses in Cleveland.

Police are investigating all five deaths. Investigators believe one woman smoked tainted marijuana which led to her overdosing and dying.

  • Fatal overdose, Trowbridge Avenue — A 39-year-old woman was found dead in a house. Police collected evidence and logged the death.
  • Fatal overdose, 4900 Whiskey Island Dr. — A 42-year-old man was found dead near Olde River Yacht Club.
  • Fatal overdose, Wakefield Ave. — A 40-year-old man was found dead near a Detroit-Shoreway home.
  • Fatal overdose, Colgate Ave. — A 44-year-old woman was found dead at a home off of Madison Avenue. Police believe the woman smoked tainted marijuana.
  • Fatal overdose, W. 25th St. — A 42-year-old woman was found dead in a house, police said.

Overdose deaths hit a new high in 2020 in Ohio and the U.S., according to data from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. In Ohio, based on incomplete data, overdose deaths were up more than 21 percent in 2020. The CDC believes 5,215 Ohioans died from overdoses last year, up from 4,279 in 2019.
