911 Tapes Reveal Dwayne Haskins Ran Out Of Gas Before Death On Highway
On the tapes, Kalabrya Haskins is calling after not hearing back from her husband. The former OSU quarterback was hit by a truck on April 9.

MIAMI, FL —An audio recording of a 911 call made by Kalabrya Haskins, Dwayne Haskins' widow, appears to show that the former Ohio State quarterback had run out of gas shortly before he was struck and killed by a truck on April 9 near Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport in Florida.
In the recording, obtained by Andy Slater of FoxSports 640 in South Florida, Kalabrya Haskins can be heard telling a 911 dispatcher that Dwayne Haskins had called her from the side of the road and that he would call back after he finished putting gas in his vehicle. However, she had been unable to reach him.
Haskins, who was calling from the couple's home in Pittsburgh, then tells the dispatcher that her husband was near Interstate-95.

"I kept calling and kept calling," Haskins tells the 911 dispatcher. "He wasn't answering. Eventually, after 10 minutes of calling the phone, eventually it cut off. It's not working now. I had his location. I just want somebody to go in the area and see if his car is there and if he's OK and if anything happened to him."
The dispatcher then informs Kalabrya Haskins that there has been an incident on I-595.

"So, I don't want you to panic but I am going to be honest with you," the dispatcher says. "We do have an incident on the highway, but I can't confirm if that's your husband or not."
Haskins, who joined the Pittsburgh Steelers in 2021, died on I-595 after being struck by a dump truck around 6:30 a.m.
Prior to the release of the 911 tapes, it had not been clear why Haskins was walking by the side of the highway at the time he was killed.
Haskins reportedly was in Florida working out with other Pittsburgh Steelers players.
A first-round draft pick by the Washington Commanders in 2019, Haskins was entering his fourth NFL season.
At Ohio State, Haskins led the Buckeyes to a memorable season in 2018. The team finished 13-1 and won the Big Ten Conference championship game and the Rose Bowl. Haskins, then just a sophomore, was named the MVP of both games and he finished third in the voting for the Heisman Trophy.
Haskins, a Potomac, Maryland native, declared for the NFL Draft after that season.
