CLEVELAND — For many Northeast Ohioans, Labor Day represents the symbolic end of summer and the impending arrival of fall weather. To commemorate the moment, many families make a final trip to the beach.

Sadly, swimmers are being told to stay out of the waters of Lake Erie on Labor Day. A beach hazards statement has been issued for much of the northern Ohio coast and will remain in place through at least 4 p.m. on Monday.

"Wind and wave action will cause currents on the lakeshore. Swimmers should not enter the water. Currents can carry swimmers away from shore through a sand bar and along structures extending out into the lake," the National Weather Service said.
