Back to School Sales Tax Holiday Set for August 5-7

Save money on back to school items!

Back-to-school shoppers will get a break this weekend. Ohio's sales tax holiday begins on Friday, August 5 at 12:00 a.m. and runs until Sunday, August 7 at 11:59 p.m. The tax exemption applies to clothing and footwear up to $75 per item and school supplies and instructional materials up to $20 per item.

Last year's tax holiday was so successful, that a study was conducted for the Ohio Council of Retail Merchants (OCRM) by the University of Cincinnati Economics Center determined that the event saved Ohio consumers $3.3 million in taxes and generated $4.7 million in increased tax revenues for Ohio government.

"Ohioans love a sale and last year proved that they really love not having to pay the sales tax as well," said Gordon Gough, OCRM president/CEO.

All retailers, both online and brick and mortar stores that sell these goods to Ohio residents can participate.
