Wounded Fan Demands Justice For Beer-Can Assault At Browns Game

1) Stephanie Allen was in the stands at a Cleveland Browns game when a beer can thrown through the air struck her in the head, causing a concussion and face injuries. That was eight months ago, and no one has been held to account. “I was cheering and clapping because of the touchdown," she told Ed Gallek of Fox 8 News. "It felt like a car hit me in my head." Prosecutors have a suspect, but for some reason neither the county nor the city has brought charges.

2) The last wooden street in Cleveland is rotting, and neighbors want the city to do something to save historic Hessler Court. The 300-foot stretch of road in University Circle — home to the counterculture Hessler Street Fair that started in 1969 — is in disrepair and neighbors are angry. "I feel sad," said Laura Cyrocki. "The city is not responding to us and apparently doesn’t have the resources to care for this historic district." Emery Hessler built the street out of wood more than 100 years ago and deeded it to the city in 1908.

3) A new Handel's Homemade Ice Cream shop will open in Mayfield Heights on Aug. 4. One of the best ice cream shops in Greater Cleveland, folks must travel to Twinsburg or Northfield to get their licks in. The first 50 customers on Thursday will get a free ice cream cone once a week for the next year. In 1945, Alice Handel founded the first shop in Youngstown.

5) Good dog, bad man: The man who stabbed Lorain police dog Rye four times last week had gone on a violent spree in the weeks before the fateful encounter with Rye that ultimately cost the man his life. Charles White, 48, shot five times in the chest that day by police, had stalked and stabbed a woman, choked her and tried to force himself on her. Then he burned down her garage. He also tried to burn down the house where she and her family lived, according to the woman's mom. K9 Rye, who found White hiding in a basement, is now home recuperating.
