Best-Paying Jobs In Major Ohio Cities: U.S. News

CINCINNATI — Millions of people in the United States abandoned their jobs during the coronavirus pandemic in search of a career with better benefits and, in some cases, more lucrative pay. If you’re considering a similar change, U.S. News has a look at the highest-paying jobs in a few of Ohio's major cities.

U.S. News & World Report on Tuesday released 2022’s Best Paying Cities, a list that ranks U.S. cities where workers employed in the country’s 100 highest-paying jobs make more than workers in other cities in the same occupation.

Two Ohio cities pay workers in one field more than other cities:

In Canton, physical therapist aides make an average of $47,510. In Toledo, forensic science technicians make an average of $89,710. Finally, podiatrists in Youngstown make an average of $229,330.

Two Ohio cities pay several types of workers more than average, Cincinnati and Akron.

Here are highest-paying jobs in Cincinnati:

• Biochemist — $132,280
• Epidemiologist/medical scientist — $122,520
• Rehabilitation counselor — $59,410
• Chiropractor — $137,470
• Hearing aid specialist — $67,290
• Exterminator — $66,690

Here are the highest-paying jobs in Akron:

• Chiropractor — $134,279
• Veterinarian — $150,330
• Surgeon — $297,710
• Physical therapist aide — $49,570

Cities in California dominated this year’s list of highest-paying cities. In all, California cities comprise 12 of the top 20 cities.

The 2022 list of highest-paying cities annually accompanies the release of U.S. News’ Best Jobs rankings.

To calculate this year’s best jobs, U.S. News looked at data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics to identify jobs with the greatest hiring demand. Jobs are then scored in seven areas: 10-year growth volume, 10-year growth percentage, median salary, employment rate, future job prospects, stress level and work-life balance.
