1) 'Skeevy' Hotel At Hopkins Airport Destined For Wrecking Ball In Favor Of More Parking

Cleveland needs more parking at Hopkins International Airport. It doesn't need a hotel. The city will pay $12 million to terminate the lease for the hotel operator, LN Hospitality, under a pending court settlement. That lease runs through 2048. The lease payment is $300,000 a year. The 243-room hotel opened in 1959 but it's fallen on hard times. City officials have said they want to raze the building and use the land for more parking.

The most recent TripAdvisor reviews posted for the Sheraton Airport Hotel, excerpted here, speak to the lodging's decline:
- Terrible service: There was a big dumpster of ice in the lobby that you could come down and scoop into your ice bucket. ... One of the desk people told a woman on the phone she was "nuts" and she hung up on him ... then he and the other clerk laughed about it.
- Old and outdated: This hotel is so old that my daughter said it was haunted. It hasn’t been updated since 1995 or longer. Our comforter was dirty, the bed skirts were stained and probably never changed.
- Terribly rude lady: I have never been treated so rudely. I went up to the desk where the lady was standing. She was very dismissive and waved her hand for me to go to a different desk. ... She was very rude and snippy to me.
- No, thank you: Sheets were stained, and one of the stains looked fresh. Not sure if it was rust or poop on the ceiling above the toilet, but it was nasty. Toilet flusher was broken. ... This is a dated and, frankly, skeevy hotel.
2) Real estate developer Scott Wolstein died Thursday. He was 69. Scott Wolstein and his father Bert built Developers Diversified Realty into a powerhouse retail and office building development company, owning more than 500 shopping centers around the United States. Wolstein's latest project was the Flats East Bank in downtown Cleveland.
3) It's high school first then college, right? Not if you're as smart as William Yeung. The 18-year-old from Lakewood graduated from Cleveland State University on May 14 with a bachelor's degree. He gets his Lakewood High School diploma on Friday. Yeung started taking college courses when he was in the seventh grade.
4) Cleveland funnyman Mike Polk Jr. looked up at the Terminal Tower and wondered to himself: "Who lights up that building at night?" Instead of guessing, he decided to find out. That's how he met Matthew Rinker and Matthew Driggs of The K&D Group, Inc., who run all those colorful lights from an app on their phones. Really!

5) The price of gasoline is too damn high — and Middleburg Heights isn't going to take it anymore. The city council in this suburb just passed a resolution asking the Federal Trade Commission to investigate whether gasoline prices are "being manipulated or artificially increased by price gouging." Councilman Tim Ali noticed some local gas stations jacked up the price of a gallon of gas by 50 cents overnight.

Social Notes

- Adopt this guy! Marlin the velveteen hippo is a sweet, mild-mannered gent. While he is certainly a sturdy boy, he is known to walk calmly on leash when out with volunteers. He also knows how to let loose and get silly when it's play time, especially if there are squeaky toys involved! Overall though, he keeps it chill. He has had some basic training already and knows how to sit on command, and he keeps his kennel very clean so seems to be housebroken. Marlin is a well-mannered, lower-key guy who could probably make himself comfortable in a lot of different homes. He's estimated to be around 5 years old and weighs 63 pounds. (Facebook)
