Candlelight Vigils In Cleveland For Capitol Insurrection Jan. 6
Organizers of the 'Stand Up for Democracy' event invite people to 'fight to protect the basic freedom to vote.'

CLEVELAND — A pair of candlelight vigils will be held in Cleveland to remember the anniversary of the 2021 U.S. Capitol insurrection.
One vigil will be held at 50 Public Square downtown, from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., while the other will be held at the Celebrezze Federal Building from noon to 1 p.m. Both events are being organized by volunteers.
During the Public Square event, the following guests are expected to speak: state Rep. Michael Skindell, Mayor Annette Blackwell, Pastor Omar Medina, Councilman Ifeolu Claytor, and activist and writer Randy Cunningham.

More than 200 vigils are scheduled to take place around the U.S. on Thursday.

Last year, a mob of President Donald Trump supporters stormed the U.S. Capitol as Congress met to certify President-Elect Joe Biden's electoral victory. Five people died either before, during or shortly after the event, including one person shot by Capitol police, another from a drug overdose and three who perished from natural causes.
Four officers who responded to the attack died by suicide within seven months.
