Cleveland Hopkins Airport Renovations Completed in Time for RNC

The $36 million terminal modernization with improved façade will be the first thing visitors will see when they come to Cleveland.

Cleveland Hopkins International Airport will be the first of Cleveland that thousands of Republican National Convention attendees will get to see. In an effort to make a great first impression, Hopkins has undergone a number of improvements which are ready just in time for the RNC.

Started last year, these completed renovations are part of the airport’s $1.6 billion Master Plan for the remaking of the 91-year-old airfield. A ribbon cutting ceremony took place on Monday.

Some of the improvements at Hopkins include:

  • terminal modernization with an updated facade
  • more natural light on the ticketing level
  • Checkpoint B has been improved to make flow through security more efficient
  • energy efficient lighting
  • revolving entry and exit doors
  • higher ceiling with floor to ceiling windows for more natural light
  • enhanced premium on-site parking

New and improved signage has replaced older signage which should help visitors find their way around the airport more easily reports crainscleveland.com.

RNC visitors should have an easier time getting a taxi to their hotel also. Fred Szabo, interim director of the Cleveland Airport System tells crainscleveland.com that Hopkins has added a second taxi lane and will be able to provide 350 to 400 cab rides an hour.
