Cleveland Man Convicted Of Possessing Ammunition As Felon

CLEVELAND, OH —A Cleveland man was convicted Thursday in a federal court of being in possession of ammunition as a convicted felon, according to the U.S. Attorney's Office of the Northern District of Ohio.

Brandon Bethune, 37, was found guilty by a jury after a three-day trial. He is scheduled to be sentenced on August 2, and he faces a statutory maximum penalty of ten years in prison, authorities said.

According to court documents, on March 20, 2021, Cleveland police officers responded to a residence after a report of domestic violence.

At the scene, officers met the caller, who said Bethune was inside with a firearm, and that he was threatening to shoot the caller.

As officers arrested Bethune, they recovered a firearm in the defendant's waistband that contained a round of ammunition jammed in the chamber, according to reports.

Later, at the Cuyahoga County Detention Center, officers from the Cuyahoga County Sheriff's Department conducted another pat-down of Bethune and discovered the firearm's magazine, which contained four rounds of ammunition.

According to authorities, Bethune is prohibited from possessing a firearm or ammunition as a result of his multiple felony convictions, including convictions for felonious assault and attempted felonious assault.
