City Of Cleveland Settles With Tamir Rice Family For $6 Million
Tamir Rice's estate will get $5.5 million, while his mother and sister will each get $250,000, according to the settlement.

The City of Cleveland and the family of Tamir Rice have agreed on a $6 million settlement as part of a lawsuit over the shooting death of the 12-year-old boy.
Rice's estate will receive $5.5 million, while his mother and sister will each receive $250,000. Half will be paid in 2016 and the other half in 2017.
The settlement was filed Monday morning by U.S. District Judge Dan Polster.

Rice was shot dead by Cleveland Police in November 2014. He was carrying a toy pellet gun at a city recreation center when officers pulled up. One jumped out of his car and fired on Rice, who was dead on the scene.
The case has one of the first major incidents that has fueled movements by police reform movements like Black Lives Matter.

"Although historic in financial terms, no amount of money can adequately compensate for the loss of a life," the Rice family said in a statement through its attorneys following the settlement. "In a situation such as this, there is no such thing as closure or justice. Nothing will bring Tamir back."
