Accused Cocaine Kingpin's Microwave Oven Stash Goes To People In Need

1) A popular Cleveland-area YouTuber bid $1,600 on a storage unit used by a North Royalton man accused of running a $20 million cocaine ring and consorting with Mexican cartel leaders. Marc Mahoney, now under federal indictment, hid loads of cash in new microwave ovens, according to the feds. YouTuber Jeremy Hales won the auction for Mahoney's storage unit, which contained 127 microwave ovens. Hales gave all the microwave ovens away on Lorain Avenue last Friday to people in need. None had any illicit cash left in them, however.

Trick-or-Treat Fest includes meet-and-greets with costumed characters, access to 20 trick-or-treat stations, and the return of the Monster Mash Dance Party at the Zoo’s amphitheater. The first 800 guests each day receive a complimentary treat bag. Tickets are $19.95 for non-members and $9.95 for members.

3) A school bus driver is under scrutiny after a mom and a TV news crew recorded a Brunswick school bus motoring well over the speed limit day after day, even in a school zone. Bus 51 was doing well over 45 and 55 mph in a 35 mph zone, and the news crew tailing the bus had trouble keeping up. “I just noticed the bus going unusually fast for a school bus. I just wanted to capture it so other people could see my concern for the safety of the students on this bus,” the mom told Fox 8 News. The district said it will be checking GPS on the bus.

4) A Twinsburg mom is thanking everyone for sharing word of her missing daughter, who was found in Atlanta after being missing for six days. She will be returning home soon. Eleanor Linek said her autistic daughter was on her way to a therapeutic school and missed her flight, then got disoriented in an unfamiliar place. "All of our friends and family and community and people who sent prayers and shared on Facebook or Twitter or whatever, social media, because I truly believe because of all that is the reason she's coming home," Linek said.

5) Cleveland State University is the top-ranked university in Ohio for social mobility, doing more than any other school to help economically disadvantaged students to earn a degree and begin a career, according to new U.S. News & World Report college rankings. About 16,000 undergrad and graduate students attend CSU. “While it’s always gratifying to be recognized in these rankings ... what is truly meaningful is the impact we’re making on the lives of our students,” CSU President Laura Bloomberg said.

Dupree (Photo courtesy Cleveland Animal Care & Control)
  • This 2-year-old cuddlepup is soft and dainty: "Make it you, me and Dupree! Dupree is an affectionate guy who would love to become part of your crew. While he can be a little sensitive and unsure about new places, Dupree warms up quickly and then shows off his fun, bouncy, cheerful side. Dupree likes to be close to you, and seems to take reassurance from lots of cuddles. Overall he walks well on leash and is pretty attentive to his people. Dupree was social with other dogs for his play group assessment, with a play style on the more soft and dainty side. He is estimated to be around 2 years old and weighs 56 lbs." • If you love fishing, you'll like Homer: "Winslow Homer was drawn to the Adirondacks for the beauty of the mountains 🏔 as well as the sport of the locals—especially hunting 🏹 and fishing 🎣. His focus on the moment a trout leaps from the river to catch a fisherman’s fly is novel in its focus on such a potentially mundane subject. The iridescent fish’s scales, deep green forest, reflective surface of the water exhibit Homer’s versatile watercolor technique." (Cleveland Museum of Art via Instagram)
