Cleveland Police Track Down And Arrest Suspected Hit-And-Run Killer

1) Vance Christian, 45, was arrested and charged in connection to the hit-and-run death of 3-year-old Izzy Hudspath near Edgewood Park. Izzy was riding her bike with an adult and a 10 year old when an SUV driver hit all three, got out, looked at the bodies and then drove away. Izzy died at a hospital Thursday night. The other two were hospitalized. Christian was charged Saturday with aggravated vehicular homicide and failure to stop at an accident.

2) A Jim Thome bobblehead was issued Sunday as part of a special Hall of Fame series, Legends of the Park. Thome played 13 of his 22 years in Cleveland. The slugger hit 337 home runs in an Indians uniform. He finished his career with 612 homers. Thome was enshrined in Cooperstown in 2018. Buy one here: Thome's bobblehead costs $55.

3) A Cleveland firefighter who responded to a call in the 13500 block of Ferris Avenue on the East Side suffered burns on his neck and was taken to MetroHealth Medical Center on Sunday. The firefighter is in stable condition. The fire began when cooking food was left unattended.

4) Food deserts abound on Cleveland's South and East sides as community leaders negotiate to bring a grocer to the city's Central neighborhood. About three of every five Cleveland residents resides in a food desert and more than one out of three Cuyahoga County residents does, according to the county's board of health and planning commission.

5) The pregnancies of two Cleveland sisters — ages 10 and 13 — who were allegedly raped by their mom's boyfriend illustrate the limited options pregnant girls and rape victims have under Ohio's more restrictive abortion laws. In 2020, 52 Ohio girls under the age of 15 obtained abortions, reports the Ohio Department of Health in its most recent abortion report.
