- A Cleveland firefighter was struck and killed while assisting with a vehicle accident on Saturday night. The Cleveland Division of Fire responded to a rollover crash that occurred on I-90 East at Martin Luther King Jr. Drive, and the suspect hit Johnny Tetrick and fled the scene. Cleveland police were able to locate the suspect, who is now in custody. (Cleveland 19 News)
- Lawmakers could send hundreds of millions in funds to nursing homes across the state if new legislation is passed in Ohio. Lawmakers recognize the nursing home industry as a political powerhouse with facilities struggling to stay above water. Officials say the funds are needed to ensure the quality of care amid staffing shortages, rising labor costs, and increases in the price of care. (Subscription: cleveland.com)
- The Cleveland Orchestra Youth Orchestra received a $5 million gift from Geoffrey and Sarah Gund and will guarantee the high-level training ensemble will continue for years. Geoffrey Gund is the former board president of the Gund Foundation, a philanthropic organization that positively impacts the Greater Cleveland arts, public school students, community, and economic development.
