Fishy Fishermen Exposed As Cheaters In Cleveland Tournament

1) “I knew right away that something was very wrong with those walleye.” Those are the words of Jason Fischer, director of the Lake Erie Walleye Trail Championship in Cleveland Harbor, where elite fishermen gathered to compete this weekend and instead hooked a pair of cheaters. The five fish submitted by top anglers Jacob Runyan and Chase Cominsky seemed way too heavy — weighing in at a whopping 33.91 pounds — so Fischer sliced them open for inspection.

Out popped lead weights in each fish!!! 😮
- Furious fishermen: "We got weights in the fish," Fischer yelled, then he ordered Runyan to leave. The other competitors grew angry and shouted down Runyan, of Cleveland, and Cominsky, of Pennsylvania — who already was hiding in his truck.
- Charges possible: Fischer, who's also a law enforcement officer, called the Ohio Department of Natural Resources to report the cheats. ODNR is gathering evidence for Cuyahoga County prosecutors.
- History of winning: Runyan and Cominsky have won boats and a lot of prize money over the years in fishing tournaments, which draw competitors from across the country. They could have won close to $30,000 for this one.

2) The Cleveland Guardians won their 90th game Sunday, beating the Kansas City Royals 7-5 at Progressive Field. Will Brennan and Josh Naylor each hit three-run home runs in the second inning. This was Brennan's first big-league homer! Shane Bieber was the starting pitcher, and he'll start Game 1 of the wildcard series on Friday. The Guardians are 22-5 since Sept. 5 — the best winning percentage in Major League Baseball.
3) Panic gripped Summit Mall Sunday afternoon in Fairlawn as a gun was fired in the food court and shoppers ran to get out of the mall. Two men attacked a man and a woman near the food court, and the man who was assaulted pulled his concealed handgun. One of the assailants tackled the licensed gun owner and a shot was fired into the air. The incident happened around 2:30 p.m., and police responded in force to the mall, which was locked down and evacuated. The two men ran from the mall.
4) Playhouse Square is getting a makeover, with new gold marquees on a handful of theaters. The Allen, Connor Palace, Hanna, Keybank State and Mimi Ohio will get the largest and most visual of the gold-colored marquees. The improvements will cost more than $10 million and will be finished by summer 2023. The current marquees are old, uncoordinated and have sustained damage. A few have been dinged by buses.
5) Two people and a dog were found dead in a house fire Sunday morning on the 33000 block of Redwood Boulevard in Avon Lake. Firefighters responded shortly after 7 a.m. Part of the structure had collapsed. When firefighters entered the house to continue working on the flames, they found the bodies. One was in the living room and the other was in a bedroom with the dog. Identities have not been released pending the Lorain County Coroner's investigation.

- Lend me your ears: "Meet the man, the myth, the legend - Brawley. Brawley knows that life in the fast lane is overrated, and he doesn't let himself be hurried. In fact, Brawley has the current distinction of being the slowest stroller at the kennel. He likes to take time to smell the roses (and everything else.) Poor Brawley arrived with poorly cropped ears which have obviously been chronically infected, which seems to have led to some hearing impairment. This boy truly deserves to enjoy a pampered retirement!." (City Dogs Cleveland via Facebook)
