Frank Q. Jackson Killing: Man Indicted On Murder Charge

A 29-year-old Cleveland man has been accused of killing the longtime Cleveland mayor's grandson.

CLEVELAND — Charges were officially filed in connection to the death of Cleveland Mayor Frank Jackson's grandson this week.

Robert Shephard, 29, has been indicted on one count of aggravated murder, one count of murder, and two counts of felonious assault. He is being held at Cuyahoga County Jail on a $1 million bond. He will be arraigned at a later date, the county prosecutor's office said.

Frank Q. Jackson, 24, was dropped off near Sidaway Avenue and E. 70th in Cleveland on Sept. 19, court documents said. After he was dropped off, Shepard lured him away and shot him, prosecutors argued.

Both Jackson and Shephard ran off after the shooting, court documents said. Jackson was found in a nearby yard by Cleveland police and EMS. He was later pronounced dead from his injuries.

This wasn't Jackson's first run-in with police or criminal elements. In 2019, Frank Q. Jackson was investigated after a woman accused him of attacking her in the parking lot of a gas station.

Mayor Jackson previously defended his relationship with his grandson, arguing he never interfered in any police investigations related to Frank Q.
