Cleveland's Baseball-Game Drummer Honored With Place In Guardians Hall Of Fame

1) 🥁 If you've ever been to a Major League baseball game in Cleveland, you've heard the beat of this man's drum. John Adams brought that drum to Cleveland Municipal Stadium 50 years ago. On Wednesday, the Cleveland Guardians (née Indians) inducted the drummer from the bleachers into the Distinguished Hall of Fame. The Guardians called him "the heartbeat of Progressive Field." Adams has attended more than 3,700 games. He's had some health problems in recent years, but his love for Cleveland baseball remains strong. Congrats Mr. Adams!!! ❤️ ⚾ 💙

2) Speaking of "distinguished" and "hall of fame," disgraced former Cleveland Browns owner Art Modell did not advance as a finalist in Pro Football Hall of Fame voting for the coach/contributor category. 😈 Modell was eliminated in the first round of voting. (As a football fan, I can appreciate the role he played as an owner in promoting the sport and advancing the game. He was instrumental in creating Monday Night Football and bringing the NFL to television prominence. As a Cleveland Browns fan, however, I can't forget how he betrayed this city and the most loyal fanbase in the entire league.) Modell died in 2012 at the age of 87.

3) The Maple Heights police officer who shot a fleeing man in the back last May was forced out of the Brooklyn Police Department, 3News Investigates has revealed. He also faced discipline for his conduct in his first police job at Kent State University. Terrance Duncan was on the Maple Heights force for a month when he shot Da'Twuan Catchings as the man climbed over a fence. Duncan's training officer, who was on the scene, had also been forced out of the Highland Hills police force in 2018.

4) The pair of snowy owlets hatched July 31 and Aug. 3 at the Akron Zoo died on Tuesday. The species is native to the arctic regions and is considered vulnerable to extinction. Zoo officials said there were no signs of disease or trauma, but the owlets had a one out of three chance of dying in their first year of life. An autopsy was inconclusive. This was the first time owlets were born at the Akron Zoo.
5) One year ago, a Greater Cleveland RTA police officer pushed a man off a train platform. Now, the RTA is forming an oversight committee for its police force to investigate complaints and recommend discipline. Misdemeanor charges against the officer accused in the pushing incident were dropped but he was ordered to undertake de-escalation training. Critics say the oversight committee lacks authority to do anything other than make recommendations.
