ICYMI: Nike Basketball Commercial Released After Game 7 Was Actually Filmed Last Year
Nike believed in Believeland and waited to release a year-old Cavs spot at exactly the right time.
After the Cleveland Cavaliers defeated the Golden State Warriors in Game 7 of the NBA Finals to win the NBA Championship — the city's first pro sports title in 52 years — Nike Basketball released a commercial that completely defines the feeling of "Believeland." The short video captures the essence of LeBron James and Cleveland realizing their dream.

But while the video spot is newly released, Nike actually filmed it last year during the NBA Playoffs.

Patty Ryan, CEO and president of the Lakewood Chamber of Commerce, told Patch that she had been contacted by a location scout last year who told her that a "large shoe manufacturer from Oregon" wanted to film a commercial at her home in Lakewood. The scout said that he was familiar with her home from work he had done earlier for the movie "Fun Size," which was filmed in Lakewood.

Ryan and her family enthusiastically agreed to the filming. In fact, they tried to subliminally persuade the film crew into including them in the video by wearing Cavs gear — even putting a Cavs bandana on the family dog.
"They completely transformed our house!" Ryan said.
The film crew heavily decorated the Ryans' home with Cavs sports memorabilia (see photos). The whole filming process took about three days.
"We were told last year that the video would only be used if the Cavs won the championship," she said. "We were totally surprised when we saw the video after the game this year."
