2) A new documentary streaming on HBO Max, "The Last Movie Stars," explores the lives and relationship of Paul Newman and his wife Joanne Woodward. Newman's interest in acting began right here in Cleveland, where he was born in 1925. He grew up in Shaker Heights, worked at his father's sporting goods store, Newman-Stern Co., for a bit and performed at the Cleveland Playhouse. Emily Wachtel, a co-producer of the documentary, shared her views on Newman's coming-of-age years in the Cleveland area:

"This is my opinion but growing up in Shaker Heights wound up being a benefit for him. He had sort of a bedrock of morals and values. That sort of kept him while a lot of those people — James Dean and Marlon Brando — burned out. Paul kept going. He had a work ethic that was very strong."

3) Vance Christian, 45, ran down a 3-year-old girl with his car this summer, got out and looked at her, then got back into his car and sped away, according to prosecutors. Izzy Hudspeth died at the hospital. Two others were hurt. Police tracked Christian down the next day thanks to street-camera video. On Monday, he pleaded not guilty to aggravated vehicular homicide and failure to stop after an accident. A judge set his bail at $250,000.

The Cleveland Brew Shop on Lorain Avenue will host the party Sept. 17. German-style homebrews will be free. Tickets will cost $15 for drinkers and $5 for designated drivers. Frankie Lynn Hot Dogs will serve food.

5) Emails, calendar appointments and text messages now reveal that Gov. Mike DeWine was in close contact with FirstEnergy executives, House Speaker Larry Householder and Sam Randazzo ahead of Randazzo's appointment as chairman of the public utilities commission. DeWine was cautioned against putting Randazzo in that post back in 2019, but he did so anyway. Householder and Randazzo would go on to pocket millions of dollars in bribes from FirstEnergy.
