Mark Your Calendar: The Lakewood Summer Meltdown, Returns July 9th [PHOTOS]
The Lakewood Summer Meltdown returns to the streets of Lakewood again this summer with races, a street festival, food, beer garden and more.
Lakewood, OH — The Lakewood Summer Meltdown, sponsored by Melt Bar & Grilled and presented by LakewoodAlive, is back for its seventh year on Saturday, July 9 from 4-10 p.m. This event will include a 5K race, 1 Mile Kids Fun Run, street festival, food, and beer garden on Detroit Avenue between Marlowe and Elmwood Avenues.
In 2015, nearly 10,000 people from Lakewood and across the region attended the Meltdown, one of the area’s preeminent summer festivals.
Families will love the street festival featuring free programs from over 50 businesses and nonprofit organizations, including over 40 interactive opportunities. Fun activities include a sprinkler park, yoga, skateboarding, various exercise demonstrations, and more.

For the runner in your family, try the Lakewood Family YMCA 1 Mile Kid’s Fun Run or the Meltdown 5K race. One of the only evening races in the region, the 5K heads due north to Lakewood Park and winds its way past some of the community’s most beautiful homes. Return with a slight incline back to Detroit Avenue for the finish line. This relatively flat course leads to new personal records each summer. End the race with a walk through the sprinkler park and replenish your body with complimentary water, bananas and other goodies.
New this year is a 20% price reduction for the Kids Fun Run. For $12, kids can run in this timed race and receive their own Summer Meltdown runner t-shirt.

The 5K race costs $23 pre-sale and $28 day-of. Runners will receive a Summer Meltdown runner t-shirt and chip timing for the most accurate timing.
Cap off the evening with a trip to the Buckeye Beer Engine Beer Garden for tasty suds and live music. Just outside the beer garden will be food from great Lakewood restaurants and, returning this year, several local food trucks.
