🥹 NFL Bursts Hue's Bubble + Primary Day + Political Convict News

Cleveland Daily: Your quick read on the need-to-know news today in Greater Cleveland — like the Guardians' Grand Slam Beerfest on July 9.

It's primary day. Get out and do your part to preserve democracy. Hold your nose and cast your vote for the person you dislike least. 🤷 Speaking of people you might dislike, Hue Jackson's hue and cry over intentional losing went up in smoke. Much like his coaching record.

NFL Probe Concludes Browns Were What We Thought They Were: A Bad Football Team That Couldn't Win

Hue Jackson claimed the Cleveland Browns incentivized him to tank games when he was head coach. But when it came time to show up and back up those claims with the independent investigators hired by the NFL, Hue was a no-show — much like his offense during his time on the Browns sideline.

Jackson, who went 3-36-1 for the Browns before he was fired, agreed to speak with investigators, but ultimately did not.

The independent review, helmed by former U.S. Attorney and SEC Chair Mary Jo White, found no evidence the Browns purposely lost games. They were JUST THAT BAD.

  • Monday's statement from the NFL: “The investigation found no evidence to suggest that the Browns’ Four-Year Plan or the club’s ownership or football personnel sought to lose or incentivized losses and made no decisions deliberately to weaken the team to secure a more favorable draft position."
  • Why the probe began: Jackson made several social media posts in February stating the team paid him bonuses to lose. He also said he was set up to fail.
  • The Browns showed up for the investigation, however: “Although unable to speak directly to Coach Jackson, the Debevoise team had access to his public statements and to his filings and testimony in a prior arbitration proceeding. The club also produced thousands of pages of documents, including emails, texts, internal memos and presentation decks as well as other material relating to club operations and the filings and testimony in the arbitration proceeding between the club and Coach Jackson.”
