- A Euclid police officer must pay $4.4 million in restitution for fatally shooting a man in 2017. The officer climbed into the 23-year-old’s car and shot him when he started to drive away. At the time, the incident sparked racial tensions in the Cleveland suburb. (Cleveland 19 News)
- Respiratory syncytial virus (RSV), a common cold-like respiratory virus, has been rising among children in Greater Cleveland. Severe RSV can cause pneumonia and hospitalization in children under 2 years old. Since September, hospitals are seeing a tremendous increase in pediatric emergency visits, including MetroHealth, with a 500 percent increase in the past month. Because of the spike in cases, Pfizer is working on a vaccine that could be available by next winter. (cleveland.com)
- Domestic violence killings have spiked in Cleveland in the past year and since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic. The Journey Center for Safety and Healing, a center helping survivors of domestic violence, is experiencing a staffing shortage due to the number of cases and expresses the need for a conversation about this topic in the community. The trauma center is working on filling positions quickly to tend to more survivors. (News 5 Cleveland WEWS)
