See Ohio's New License Plate Design

OHIO — Following a period of hype and anticipation, Ohio officials unveiled the state's new license plate design on Thursday.

The license plate features an idyllic rural scene, with crops, trees and flowing water in the foreground. In the background, the silhouette of a city looks over the landscape. Finally, one of the Wright Brothers original planes pulls a banner that says, "Ohio, Birthplace of Aviation" across the sky.

Shortly after the unveiling, the Ohio Bureau of Motor Vehicles had to re-unveil the license plate. Why? Because they had accidentally shared an image where the plane was oriented the wrong way.

On the bright side, even if the license plate underwent minor adjustments, it's still a nifty design.

"We wanted Ohio's new license plate to reflect the heart and soul of our state and to encapsulate where we've been, who we are, and where we're going," said Gov. Mike DeWine. "The imagery on our new license plate symbolizes what makes Ohio beautiful, unique, and extraordinary."

The new license plate, with the plane facing the right direction, will be available to Ohioans starting Dec. 29, 2021.
