Too Drunk to Drive Parents Have 15-Year-Old Son Drive Family to Cedar Point

After too much drinking in Columbus, these parents let their unlicensed 15-year-old son drive the family to Cedar Point.

Reynoldsburg, Ohio — Two Ohio parents face a possible Franklin County Children Services investigation for allowing their unlicensed teenage son to drive the family to Cedar Point because they were too drunk to drive.

On Saturday around 8:13 a.m. the family's minivan was pulled over by Ohio State Highway Patrol for speeding on SR 2 in Vermilion Township, almost two hours away from Columbus. The minivan was clocked at 83 mph in a 70 mph zone.

The teen said that he and his family were headed to Cedar Point and that he had been driving all night from Columbus and admitted that he had no license or learner permit.

The trooper then found Michelle Kirk, 45, Timothy W. McCoy, 54, and the driver’s 12-year-old sister in the van, with McCoy in the front passenger seat and Kirk and the girl in rear seats, according to the Patrol report.

Kirk and McCoy exhibited obvious signs of impairment so the trooper administered a portable breath test for both of them, Kirk had a blood alcohol content of .265 percent and McCoy had a blood alcohol content of .184 percent, both over the legal limit of .08 percent in Ohio, according to the report.

Kirk and McCoy were both charged with child endangerment for their actions early July 2, Kirk has also been charged with wrongful entrustment of a vehicle.

Kirk and the children were released to her mother and McCoy was incarcerated at the Erie County Jail.
