VASJ High Football Game Canceled Due To COVID-19 Outbreak

Villa Angela-St. Joseph's opponent, Wheeling Park High, is dealing with a COVID-19 outbreak among its players.

CLEVELAND — The Villa Angela-St. Joseph High football game scheduled for Friday night has been canceled.

The Vikings' planned opponent, Wheeling Park High, is battling a COVID-19 outbreak among its football players, the school announced Thursday afternoon. All purchased tickets will be refunded.

Any Villa Angela-St. Joseph football fans are urged to cancel their travel plans for the road game as soon as possible.

"The VASJ Athletic Department is currently in the process of trying to find a replacement game. We will keep the Viking community updated," said Villa Angela-St. Joseph High School in a statement.

The Vikings are 3-0 this season, with dominant victories over Cuyahoga Valley Christian Academy, Holy Name and Lakeside. Depending on what happens with the team's schedule, if no replacement game is found, Villa Angela-St. Joseph will play Cleveland Central Catholic on Sept. 17.
