Vroom Sputters With Many Cleveland Used Car Buyers Who've Filed Complaints

(Vroom media photo)

1) The online car seller Vroom is racking up Better Business Bureau and Ohio attorney general complaints from Ohioans, and Jason LaPierre of Cleveland is one of them. LaPierre bought a 2014 Jeep from Vroom and is still waiting for his papers and plates. The state will no longer allow him to drive the car on temporary tags. The BBB in Texas, where Vroom is based, says Ohioans account for hundreds of service complaints against Vroom there, too.

2) Cleveland Metroparks annual Touch-a-Truck event is coming to Brookside Reservation on Aug. 21. We've got bulldozers, backhoes, police cars, bucket trucks and more. There will also be a 40-ton sandbox and tractor rides. This is FREE fun for big kids and little kids alike.

3) Now that the NFL has appealed the discipline handed down to Cleveland Browns quarterback Deshaun Watson for sexual misconduct, who will sit in judgment this time? The commissioner has appointed Peter C. Harvey — an attorney who sits on the NFL's diversity advisory committee. He was arbitrator of Hue Jackson's claims the Browns forced him to tank games. He was also the first African-American attorney general in New Jersey history.

4) The Rev. Michael G. Woost, a Cleveland native and St. Ignatius High School graduate, was ordained as an auxiliary bishop Thursday in the Catholic Diocese of Cleveland. Woost, 63, who became a priest in 1984, is a faculty member of St. Mary Seminary. The last time a Cleveland priest was ordained as a bishop in the diocese was 21 years ago.

5) Vampires, stay away. The Cleveland Garlic Festival returns the weekend of Aug. 27 to Shaker Square. The festival — called the "smelliest food festival" in America by Food & Wine Magazine — will feature all manner of garlic-infused foods, from beer to ice cream, fries to olive oil. The garlic festival would not be complete without the crowning of a Miss Garlic, too.
