Water Gunfights For Play Leading To Fatal Gunplay For Real

1) Organized water-pellet gun battles in Cleveland and other Northeast Ohio communities are leading to real gunplay and fatal shootings, according to police. These shootings are on the rise and may have factored into a recent Tremont murder. The toy guns fire Orbeez pellets, small water-filled beads that can leave a welt. Social media is driving the pellet-gunfight trend, called the Orbeez Challenge.

2) 🏈 Jim Donovan has been the Cleveland Browns radio play-by-play man for 24 years, a stint that now ties him with Gib Shanley as the longest tenured Browns broadcaster. Who among us hasn't turned down the television sound and turned on a radio to listen to Donovan and Doug Dieken call a Browns game? The Plain Dealer's Terry Pluto wrote a three-part series on Jim Donovan this week, crafting an in-depth look at WKYC sports anchor's life and career and a must-read for every Clevelander.
Here are 5 fast facts to know about Jim Donovan, a man whose name will forever be associated with Cleveland sports.
- As a child, Donovan would record his own play-by-play of Boston Bruins games on a tape recorder.
- He worked at the same college radio station as shock jock Howard Stern.
- Donovan made his debut in Cleveland the same year as Bernie Kosar.
- He auditioned for the Browns radio job by calling part of a game with former Browns Bob Golic and Hanford Dixon.
- After a few bouts with cancer, Donovan underwent a bone marrow transplant in 2011. His radio partner, Doug Dieken, said this: “I played with a lot of tough guys. But the toughest guys are not always on the field.”
