What Will The Weather Be Like On Christmas Day In Northeast Ohio?

Unfortunately, you'll likely need an umbrella if you're stepping outside.

CLEVELAND — Northeast Ohioans dreaming of a white Christmas should instead hope they get an umbrella under the tree.

There is likely to be precipitation on both Christmas Eve and Christmas Day, according to the National Weather Service. Unfortunately, it's more likely to be rain than snow.

Forecasts show a warm front bringing spring-like temperatures to Northeast Ohio on Dec. 24 and Dec. 25. In fact, Northeast Ohioans can expect a high in the low 50s on Friday and a high in the mid-50s on Saturday.

Temperatures should drop quickly back into the 30s by Sunday night, when a dash of snow could fall in Greater Cleveland.

Northeast Ohio actually saw a significant snow storm in 2020. On Christmas Eve 2020, much of the Buckeye State saw snow falling at rates of 1 inch per hour, the National Weather Service said. In snow belt counties, like Lake, the rate of snowfall was even heavier, with nearly 2 inches of snow coming down per hour.

Lake, Ashtabula and Erie counties ultimately got between 30 and 36 inches of snow between Christmas Eve and Christmas night, the National Weather Service records show.

So, maybe a bit of rain won't be so bad after all?
