Vote For Northeast Ohio Therapy Dog in World's Cutest Rescue Dog Contest

1) Abbey, a 5-year-old mutt and therapy dog from Fairlawn, is a finalist in People's World's Cutest Rescue Dog contest. Abbey was adopted by Dina DiDonato, who took her to obedience training where trainers suggested she become a therapy dog. “We visit nursing homes, assisted living centers, an addiction recovery center, or any location that makes a request for therapy dogs. Nothing makes Abbey happier than visiting with people and getting belly rubs," DiDonato told People. Voting is open through Sept. 28.

2) A throwback "running Brownie" logo will grace the 50-yard line at FirstEnergy Stadium thanks to the votes of Cleveland Browns fans. This will be the first time the Browns have painted a midfield logo onto the field since 2016. The Brownie dates back to 1946 and was the brainchild of original Browns owner Arthur B. McBride. (The Browns won the AAFC championship that year, too.) Fun fact: When Art Modell owned the team, he hated Brownie so much he banned him from ever appearing at Browns games.
3) Tom Hanks, who was an intern in Cleveland at the Great Lakes Shakespeare Festival in the '70s, has autographed a replica "Cast Away" Wilson volleyball that will be raffled off to benefit the Greater Cleveland Film Commission. The winner will be drawn Nov. 20 during his appearance on the “From Cleveland, For Cleveland” speaker series at the Capitol Theatre. Looking for a ballpark bid figure? In April, a similar volleyball signed by Hanks — a Cleveland baseball fan — went for $6,700 in an auction for the Cleveland Guardians home opener.

4) Jennifer Ilgauskas, wife of former Cleveland Cavalier Zydrunas Ilgauskas and owner of several area companies, died Sept. 11. She was 50 years old. The Lakewood resident owned Rebound Physical Therapy, North Olmsted Urgent Care, Lakewood Urgent Care, as well as Darbo, a medical billing company. Behind the scenes, she was involved in a number of local charities. She's survived by her husband and sons. A funeral Mass will take place Sept. 17 in Lakewood.
5) Cleveland police officer Michael Glick, accused of punching a man and a teen after storming into a Lakewood 4th of July party last year, should face serious punishment, the Civilian Review Board ruled Tuesday. Glick, off duty and believing disruptive fireworks were coming from the party, forced his way in, flashed his badge, punched a 15-year-old and the homeowner, then waved his gun, according to review board testimony. Lakewood police were called to break up the fight and took Glick into custody. The police chief or public safety director must decide his punishment.

- Lapdog cutie: "Athena is our resident goddess of snuggles and zoomies and crooked teef! At just around 36 lbs, Athena is a pint-sized nugget, perfectly suited to climbing onto laps for cuddles and smooches. But her small size holds a big, spunky personality. She's a tiny body-builder who gleefully bunny hops around the play yard before barreling back to your lap full speed for some upside-down belly rubs." (City Dogs Cleveland via Facebook)
