Black, white populations dropped but are still the largest

The number of white and black residents decreased by 12 percent and 6 percent, respectively, but they still represent the largest populations. There are 46,121 people in Cleveland Heights, according to data from the 2010 Census. There are 22,984 people who identify themselves as white and 19,587 who identify themselves as black.

Asian, Hispanic populations are the smallest, youngest and growing

Asian and Hispanic residents represent the smallest populations in Cleveland Heights — 4 percent and 1.9 percent respectively. However, they are also the only populations to grow since the last Census in 2000. And they are the youngest. The median age in Cleveland Heights is 35.8, but the median age of Hispanic residents is 27.7 and the median age of the Asian community is 28.3, according to the data. 

Average family size is higher for black, Hispanic populations

The average family size in Cleveland Heights is just over three. Black and Hispanic families are the largest at 3.18 and 3.05 people per family, respectively. Asian families are the smallest in the city at 2.79 people per family, and white famillies are in the middle of the data set at 2.93 people per family.

Just more than half of the homes in Cleveland Heights are owner-occupied

Slightly more than half, or 56 percent of the total housing units in Cleveland Heights, are owner-occupied, while 43 percent are renter-occupied. White residents have the highest ownership rate — 62 percent of whites own their own homes. Asians have the lowest — 24 percent own their own homes.

Hispanics are still a small group in Cleveland Heights

While Hispanics represent a fast-growing minority across the nation, the number of people who describe themselves as Hispanic in Cleveland Heights remains small.

There are 903 Hispanic residents in Cleveland Heights, and there are 314 households out of nearly 20,000 that contain hispanic people, according to the data.
