COVID-19, Flu Vaccine Clinic Coming To Cleveland Heights

CLEVELAND HEIGHTS, OH — Cleveland Heights will host a vaccine clinic for people 60 and older on Friday.

The clinic will be held at the Cleveland Heights Community Center, 1 Monticello Boulevard, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m.

The city is collaborating with the Cuyahoga County Board of Health to host the clinic. Both COVID-19 boosters and flu shots will be available for attendees. Anyone 60 and older who is interested in registering can do so online or by calling 216-691-7377.

While there are signs the COVID-19 surge in northern Ohio is slowing, according to Dr. Bruce Vanderhoff, director of the Ohio Department of Health, cases and hospitalizations remain very high in the region.

"We're still in the thick of it, in terms of case numbers, even though there are encouraging indicators that we are headed in a more favorable direction," Vanderhoff said. "We're still looking at numbers that are north of what we saw during our peak surge in 2020. We still have a long way to go."

Ohio is currently averaging more than 21,000 new COVID-19 cases per day, to go along with 387 COVID-19 hospitalizations per day. More than 5,300 Ohioans are currently hospitalized with COVID-19, according to the state hospital association.

During a news conference last week, Vanderhoff added that getting vaccinated is the best way to protect yourself and others from COVID-19 or influenza.

According to the Ohio Department of Health, 61 percent of Ohioans have received at least one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine, while 56 percent have completed the COVID-19 vaccination process. However, only 3.1 million Ohioans have received a COVID-19 vaccine booster shot.
