Second Threat Made Toward Heights High This Month

CLEVELAND HEIGHTS, OH — For the second time in as many weeks, Heights High School was put on lockdown due to a social media threat.

The threat was discovered at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, said Cathan Cavanaugh, a district spokesperson. As a precaution, the high school put on lockdown and police were contacted.

Parents were contacted at 12:30 p.m. and allowed to collect their children from the school. Cavanaugh told Patch the Heights Schools intend to work with Cleveland Heights police as they investigate the threat.

Cleveland Heights Police Chief Annette Mecklenburg confirmed police were asked to investigate the threat. Detectives are currently determining who made the threat and why.

Last week, on Dec. 6, a social media threat toward Heights High was discovered. The high school similarly went into lockdown and students went to a remote learning model on Dec. 7, as a precaution.

After an investigation, Cleveland Heights police came to believe a 16-year-old Heights High student had posted the threat — warning he would "shoot up" the High School, police said.

The student now faces charges of inducing panic and making terroristic threat, Mecklenburg said.
