From now until Thursday, December 30, patrons and community members have a chance to view unique pieces of art on display at the Main Library that pay tribute to Dayton’s New Americans and their creative processes.
This is the first year for such an exhibit at the Library. Rachel Gut, Deputy Executive Director at the Dayton Metro Library, hopes this will become an annual event. The Library belongs to the City of Dayton Welcome Committee, and Gut herself serves as the Chair of the Arts and Culture Sub Committee.

The purpose of the committee is to use resources from the Dayton area to support the lives of New Americans, whether they are displaced, refugees, immigrants, or moved to Dayton from elsewhere in the United States, by connecting the current Dayton community with new communities who are culturally different.
“We encourage patrons of the Library and community members in Dayton to see the art exhibit and to meet the artists at the reception,” Gut said. “By exploring each piece in the exhibit, viewers will be able to learn something about a new culture by the story a piece of art tells. It’s a wonderful way to encourage Dayton’s New American cultures and communities.”

The Main Library is located at 215 East Third Street. For more information about the exhibit and/or the reception, please call the Ask Me Line at 937.463.2665.
