Report: Kent State Picks Firm to Design New Architecture College

Plain Dealer reports Weiss/Manfredi, Richard L. Bowen & Associates to build new $40 million architecture building

The Cleveland Plain Dealer is reporting that Kent State University has chosen the architecture partnership that will build the university's to its architecture program.

The partnership of WEISS/MANFREDI Lead Designer + Richard L. Bowen & Associates Architect of Record was chosen by Kent State to design the new building, the Plain Dealer reported today.

The firms were one of four partnerships vying to build the new College of Architecture and Environmental Design building as part of a design competition.

The Plain Dealer reported the university released the news today but there has been no official word on who won the design competition.

"There will be an announcement (Tuesday)," Kent State spokeswoman Emily Vincent said.

The other three finalists in the competition, which drew more than 30 early submissions from architecture firms around the world, were: Bialosky + Partners Architects, with offices in New York and Cleveland, in association with Architecture Research Office of New York; The Collaborative Inc. of Toledo, Ohio, in association with the Miller Hull Partnership of Seattle; and Westlake Reed Leskosky with offices in Cleveland and four other cities.

The new architecture college will stand on the Esplanade and serve as part of the redevelopment efforts to link the campus to downtown Kent.
