Sheriff's Office Looks for Bank Robber

FirstMerit near Kent State robbed Thursday

Portage County Sheriff David W. Doak announced Thursday a bank robbery at FirstMerit Bank located at 1729 E. Main St. in Franklin Township. 

At approximately 3:45 p.m. a subject entered the bank and approached one of the cashiers. The subject presented a note indicating that he was armed with a gun. An undisclosed amount of money was given to the subject who then fled from the bank on foot. 

Sheriff's Deputy Ed Hayes, along with his K9 partner, were able to follow a track that lead to the nearby Campus Pointe Apartment complex located on Ashton Lane. The subject was observed changing his clothing at this location and then fleeing from the area on a bicycle.

Sheriff Doak is requesting the public’s assistance in identifying this subject.  The subject was described as the following: a white male, early to middle 20s in age. Subject is approximately 5 feet 10 inches and 150 pounds.  The suspect was described as being very slender. While at the bank the suspect was dressed in a black coat, black gloves, blue jeans, grey and yellow Nike tennis shoes, with a brightly multicolored scarf. 

The suspect was wearing a black cap with a logo on the left side. At the apartment complex the subject was seen leaving on a bicycle wearing a medium blue short sleeve shirt with a black long sleeve shirt underneath. The suspect was wearing black pants and black shoes and had a back pack on that was black in color trimmed in white.

No bank personnel were harmed during the robbery.

Sheriff Doak advises that this subject should be considered armed and dangerous and for no one to take any action on their own. If anyone knows the identity of this subject or should come in contact, they are requested to immediately call the Portage County Sheriffs Office at 330-296-5100.
