Clare "Winks" Kremer

Obituary

Clare Lewis “Winks” Kremer, 100, of Vero Beach, Florida, died on December 6, 2025, in Vero Beach. She was born on February 6, 1925, in New Haven, CT, the daughter of General John T. Lewis and Josephine “Joy” Fournier Lewis.
Winks graduated from Georgetown Visitation in Washington D.C. and Duke University in 1947. She married Donald E. Martin in 1948 and settled in Parkersburg and Vienna, WV. Winks was a lifelong homemaker who also volunteered in many organizations including the WV Arts Council, the Junior League of Parkersburg, the Junior League of Indian River, Vero Beach, the Camden Clark Auxiliary and St. Joseph’s Hospital Auxiliary, both in Parkersburg, the Parkersburg Arts Center, the National Society of Arts and Letters, the Vero Beach Hospice and the Vero Beach Senior Net and Lifelong Learning Institute at the Indian River College. Winks was a member of Holy Cross Church, the Oak Harbor Club, and the garden club, Poinsettia Circle. An avid golfer, she was two-time champion of the Moorings Country Club and frequent runner up at the Vero Beach Country Club and the Parkersburg Country Club.
She is survived by her children, Jack Martin (Louisa), Palm Desert, CA, Catherine Schafer (Pat) of Marietta, Ohio; Joan Clare (Dede) Martin of Marietta, and Donald E. Martin, Jr. of Blairsville, GA; grandchildren, Erin Martin (Jeffrey Wong), Katherine Heredia (Kevin), and Zacherie L. Martin; great grandchildren, Zoe Wong, Jack Henry Wong, and Maxine Heredia; niece Carla Rister (Richard) and nephew Warren Lewis; step children, Richard Kremer (Jeanette), Deborah Brown (Don), Charles Kremer, and Laurel Beaty (Clyde); 11 step grandchildren; and longtime friend, Donna Mitchell.
Winks was preceded in death by her parents; brother, David Lewis; husbands Donald Martin in 1974, Carl Stephens in 1985, and Dick Kremer in 2005.
Her memorial Mass will be held at the Basilica of St. Mary of the Assumption in Marietta, Ohio on Thursday, January 15, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. A private burial of her ashes will take place in Mt. Olivet Cemetery in Parkersburg, WV.
