Vincent man arrested for obtaining, distributing child pornography (wtap.com) — A Vincent man has been arrested after Washington County deputies say he admitted to possessing child pornography and was allegedly obtaining and distributing it, not just viewing it. He’s charged with a second-degree felony and is being held on $50,000 bond after appearing in Marietta Municipal Court. Investigators are still examining his electronic devices and say more charges are possible.

News 16 Dec 2025 (washingtoncountysheriff.org) — Washington County deputies handled several recent incidents that ultimately tie back to Marietta, including disorderly conduct cases headed to Marietta Municipal Court and a local resident jailed on a probation violation. The report also details investigations into dog bites, harassment, and a firearm arrest during a traffic stop, along with current Washington County Jail population figures.

3. Waterford man sentenced to four years in prison for role in overdose death (newsandsentinel.com) — A Washington County judge in Marietta has sentenced Waterford resident Douglas Brion Sullivan to four years in prison for his role in a 2023 overdose death. Prosecutors and defense attorneys argued over the length of the sentence before the judge settled on four years, which Sullivan began serving immediately, following prior drug-related arrests and his admission to supplying narcotics containing fentanyl and methamphetamine.

4. Pioneers drop road tilt with Cardinals, 74-61 (mariettatimes.com) — Marietta College’s men’s basketball team fell 74-61 on the road at Otterbein, dropping the Pioneers to 5-5 overall and 1-2 in conference play. After leading 38-31 at halftime, Marietta couldn’t withstand a big second-half run. Elijah Harden paced the Pioneers with 15 points, and the team now heads to Texas for a holiday tournament.

Science of Reading audit results for Ohio colleges, universities (spectrumnews1.com) — Marietta College is among 33 Ohio institutions rated fully aligned with the state’s new Science of Reading standards for training future teachers, an important marker for local education quality and graduates’ job prospects. The statewide audit, ordered by Gov. Mike DeWine, will force noncompliant programs to improve within a year or risk losing approval for their reading programs.
