Another Earthquake Detected Near Mentor This Weekend
This was the seventh earthquake detected near Lake County since the start of 2022.
MENTOR, OH — If you felt a brief and intense shake on Sunday, you weren't alone.
For the seventh time this year, an earthquake was detected off of Eastlake, and its impacts were felt in Mentor and surrounding communities. This quake registered as a 2.0, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.
The Survey believes this quake originated beneath the waters of Lake Erie and was felt along part of the Lake County coast.

There have already been seven earthquakes detected in similar places this year, according to the Survey. Previous earthquakes were felt on Jan. 4, Jan. 5, Jan. 27, Jan. 29, and Feb. 4. None of the quakes registered beyond a 2.8.
Previous earthquakes in the area have been associated with a fault line in Lake Erie, according to WKYC.

The largest earthquake in Ohio history is believed to have hit 5.4 magnitude, Ohio History Central said. That quake hit the western portion of the state in 1937. Since recording began, Ohio has had more than 200 earthquakes that were at least 2.0 in magnitude.
