Marcy Kaptur Honored As Longest-Serving Woman In Congress
Nancy Pelosi, Paul Ryan and Sherrod Brown all congratulate Marcy Kaptur on 35 years of service in Congress.

WASHINGTON, DC -- On March 18, Marcy Kaptur becomes the longest-serving woman member of the U.S. House of Representatives. On Twitter, Kaptur thanked constituents and peers for making her 35 years, two months and 15 days of service possible.
“Thank you to the people of Ohio's 9th District. And thank you to my colleagues and everyone who made this honor so special,” Kaptur wrote. “Privileged to join the ranks of all the trailblazing women throughout our nation's history.”
Kaptur first took office in 1983, and is currently the fourth longest-serving member of the House of Representatives from the state of Ohio. She’s also the sixth longest-serving House member in general, and has served during the administrations of six U.S. presidents and eight House speakers, including Paul Ryan, who honored Kaptur in a speech on the House floor Wednesday.

Sunday, Kaptur will overtake the previous longest-serving U.S. congresswoman, Edith Nourse Rogers, a Massachusetts Republican who took office in 1925, serving until 1960.
